AAAHH!! REAL MONSTERS

In 1995, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters was in its second year of production, and a toyline from Mattel was in production. Since there weren’t any other background monsters to add to the line, it turns out that toy designer Mel Birnkrant made a line of toys called “Pets of Frankenstein” after the Frankenstein line.

From the ’80s and onwards, to make a toyline popular, a pre-sell was mandatory need to make the toyline popular so kids could by it, if Birnkrant sold the Pets of Frankenstein as themselves, very little people would buy it because there was no movie, book, TV Show/Cartoon, or Video Game based on the toys. Birnkrant’s toys would be a disaster in the market.

So when Birnkrant sold his designs to Mattel/Nickelodeon/Klasky-Csupo; Ickis, Oblina, Krumm, and The Gromble were added to the Pets of Frankenstein line to make it Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.
